Queer Little Almond Eyes
Geraldton Express 28 August 1925, p1 (Trove image)

by Victor Kennedy

Queer little deep brown almond eyes
Turned to me now with grave surprise
What the secrets tarrying there
Baffling a world's inquiring stare?
What is the wisdom so intense
Masked as a great grave innocence?
Born of the rich, romantic East,
Mysteries flash as fires released.

Reach me the depth that herein lies,
Queer little deep brown almond eyes.
